The Varsity Match between Oxford and Cambridge Universities is held annually and alternates host city from year to year. The competition was first held in 1974 and since 1996 the Blues (A Team) Match has also been accompanied by a B team match.
The Varsity Blues Team consists of 8 couples who are the most accomplished dancers overall in both disciplines, Ballroom and Latin-American. Each couple will compete in all four primary dances (Cha-Cha, Jive, Waltz & Quickstep) against all of Cambridge's couples.
The Varsity Match is a unique dancesport competition since it is a straight, most-points wins, no knockout battle for victory. Every couple dances every dance, their placings are converted to points and the team with the most wins.
