Blue Awards PDF Print E-mail

The Dancesport Team has Blues status within Oxford University. This is a prestigious status that indicates that the Dancesport Team is recognized by the University for its high sporting standards and achievements. It is the highest status a sports team can possess at Oxford and Cambridge.

The women have Full Blue status and men discretionary Full Blue status. This means that as many women that achieve the requirements can receive Full Blue awards, but only the two highest achieving men may receive Full Blue awards. The Blues are awarded to those individuals deemed worthy by the Captain(s) and the Director of Coaching. It will depend upon an individuals performance throughout the year and at the Varsity Match and achieving the criteria agreed to by the Blues Committees.

Those who compete for the Varsity A Team and represent the University at the Nationals (IVDA) but do not achieve the Full-Blue criterion, are entitled to receive a Half-Blue award.

Blue and Half-Blue award receivers normally purchase the infamous "Blues Blazer" with the sports club's crest on the breast pocket (two additional lines indicate a Half-Blue). Ladies may purchase Blues pins/broaches (gold for a Blue, silver for a Half-Blue - shown on the previous page in gold) or Scarves (Striped for Half-Blue).
